How to find out if a website is using SquareSpace?
To determine if a website uses Squarespace, you can use several approaches, including inspecting the website’s source code, checking the network requests, and using online tools.
Here’s how you can do it:
1. Use Online Tools
You can enter the website’s URL into our SquareSpace detector tool, and it will provide you with a list of technologies detected on the site, including whether it uses SquareSpace and its theme.
2. Check the Source Code
One of the most straightforward methods is to view the website’s source code and look for specific identifiers associated with Squarespace. Here’s what you can do:
- Right-click on the webpage, select View Page Source or press Ctrl+U (Command+Option+U on Mac).
- Use the Find function (Ctrl+F or Command+F on Mac) and search for terms like squarespace.com, static1.squarespace.com, or unique Squarespace CSS classes and JavaScript files, such as those containing squarespace- or sqsp- prefixes.
3. Inspect Network Requests
You can also inspect the network requests made by the website to identify SquareSpace resources:
- Open the Developer Tools in your browser (usually accessible with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I / Command+Option+I on Mac).
- Go to the Network tab and reload the page.
- Look for network requests to domains associated with Squarespace, such as those containing squarespace.com.
4. Check for SquareSpace Specific Features
Some SquareSpace-specific features or design elements can be a giveaway. For example, the website might use unique SquareSpace templates, or the URL structure may include specific patterns typical for SquareSpace websites.

5. Look for SquareSpace Copyright in the Footer
Sometimes, websites built with SquareSpace will have a “Powered by SquareSpace” note or similar in the footer. However, this is unreliable, as it can be removed or customized.
How do you detect SquareSpace templates?
When checking out a SquareSpace website, you can find out what template it uses by looking at its ID.
The ID itself can identify which template is being used, but it’s worth noting that it can reference multiple SquareSpace templates.
Our SquareSpace template detector detects all templates with the website’s template ID, so you don’t have to find them yourself.
