How can you detect website builders by looking at the source code?

Since website builders are unique, there are multiple checks you can do to find out what website builder a website is using.

The first step is to visit the website you want to check and view the source.

Right-click on the website’s page and find an option named “View Page Source” or “View Source.” Try to find a paragraph of text since the source option inside the right click only applies to this type of content.

When you have opened it, you can now check for different hints:

Wix

Press CTRL + F to open the find box. Search for “wix”-related terms or find <meta name="generator" content="Wix.com Website Builder"/>.

If the wite is built with Wix, several matches will be with “wix”.

Webflow

Search for keywords like data-wf-pagewebflow, or .webflow. in the URLs of script and stylesheet links.

You can also look for URLs in the source code that contain webflow.com, which can hint at Webflow’s content delivery network (CDN) or assets hosted by Webflow.

Some Webflow websites can have a “Made in Webflow” badge at the bottom of the site, usually in the footer, which indicates that the site is built with Webflow.

Framer

In the search box, type keywords like framerframer-motion, or any other Framer-related terms.

Look for any <script> tags in the source code that link to Framer-related URLs or files.

Squarespace

Search for terms like squarespace.com, static1.squarespace.com, or unique Squarespace CSS classes and JavaScript files, such as those containing squarespace- or sqsp- prefixes.

Websites built with SquareSpace can have a “Powered by SquareSpace” note or something similar in the footer.

Read our full-depth guide on how to detect a Squarespace website here.

Weebly

If the website uses Weebly, you’ll likely find some links or parts of the code that include the word “weebly”. Search for “weebly” in the source code.

URLs (web addresses) can have “weebly” in them or specific bits of code that mention “weebly, which indicates a website build with Weebly.

Websites can have a “Powered by Weebly” or a similar phrase at the bottom of the website.

Bubble.io

Search for keywords associated with Bubble.io, such as “cdn.bubble.io,” “bubble.io,” or “bubble_session_uid.”

Look for elements, scripts, or links that include these keywords. Bubble.io websites often load resources from Bubble’s domain or have references to Bubble-specific paths and services.

GoDaddy Website Builder

Search for GoDaddy Website Builder in the source code.

If you find a generator meta tag, e.g. <meta name="generator" content="Starfield Technologies; Go Daddy Website Builder 8.0.0000"/> the website is using GoDaddy Website builder.
