Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about website scans, technology detection, results, and the Stackcrawler API.
What is Stackcrawler.com?

Stackcrawler.com is a website technology checker that identifies platforms, frameworks, analytics tools, plugins, themes, and other technologies using publicly visible signals.

How do I use Stackcrawler.com?

Enter a website URL into the search box and click "Check". Stackcrawler will scan the site and open a report with the technologies it can detect.

What websites does Stackcrawler.com work on?

Stackcrawler is designed for publicly accessible websites. A scan may fail when a site requires a login, blocks automated requests, takes too long to respond, restricts access by location, or does not return usable page content.

How does Stackcrawler.com work?

Stackcrawler compares public website signals with known technology fingerprints. Depending on the technology, these signals can include:

  • HTML source and metadata
  • Script and asset URLs
  • Generator and “powered by” markers
  • Cookies
  • HTTP headers, including server information
How accurate is Stackcrawler.com?

Results are best-effort, not guaranteed to be complete. Stackcrawler can only report technologies that expose a recognizable public signal, and websites can hide, remove, or customize those signals. Use the results as a helpful starting point rather than definitive proof of a site's complete stack.

Why is a technology missing from the results?

Some technologies do not leave a visible trace in a website's public code, while others may be hidden by a proxy, consent settings, or custom implementation. A missing result does not necessarily mean the website is not using that technology.

What should I do if a result looks incorrect?

Website technology changes and detection methods are not perfect. If you find a result that appears outdated or incorrect, please contact us with the website URL and the result in question.

How current are the results?

Each report shows when the website was last crawled. Stackcrawler may reuse a recent cached scan rather than crawl the site again immediately. Because websites change over time, older reports may not reflect the current stack.

Can Stackcrawler scan private or password-protected websites?

No. Stackcrawler can only inspect content that is publicly accessible without signing in. It cannot access private pages, admin areas, or content behind a password.

Can I scan a specific page instead of the main website?

Not currently. You can paste a full page URL, but Stackcrawler scans the website's origin rather than the individual page path. For example, entering https://example.com/blog/post scans https://example.com.

What information does Stackcrawler inspect?

Stackcrawler analyzes publicly available page content and technical signals. Scan reports may include public business or contact details displayed by the website, such as an email address, phone number, or social media link. Stackcrawler does not sign in to websites or access private visitor or customer accounts.

Can I use Stackcrawler programmatically?

Yes. The Stackcrawler API lets you look up technologies used by websites and retrieve websites that use a specific technology.

Can I suggest a technology for Stackcrawler to detect?

Yes. Browse the technologies we currently detect first, then send us your suggestion if the technology is not listed.

What technologies does Stackcrawler.com check for?

Stackcrawler checks for more than 100 technologies across categories such as content management systems, e-commerce platforms, website builders, analytics tools, JavaScript frameworks, WordPress plugins, and website themes. Browse the technology directory for the current list.
