How to check if a website is built with Joomla?
Updated •Written By Christoffer

Joomla is a well-known CMS that, thanks to its user-friendly interface, enables both individuals and businesses to build their websites without needing in-depth knowledge of web development or programming.
There are two main methods for determining if a website uses Joomla: 1) using an online Joomla detection tool or 2) manually inspecting the website’s source code.
Method 1: Using an Online Joomla Detector Tool
- Copy the website’s URL you wish to investigate.
- Paste it into a Joomla detection tool.
The tool will quickly reveal if the site is Joomla-based and may also identify other integrated technologies, like Google Analytics, Cloudflare, and ad networks.
Method 2: Manually Checking the Source Code
- Open the website you want to check.
- You can access the source code by right-clicking on the page and selecting “View Page Source” or “View Source,” focusing on textual areas.
- Search for Joomla-specific indicators by using the find function (CTRL + F) and looking for terms related to Joomla or the meta tag
<meta name="generator" content="Joomla! - Open Source Content Management">
. - If you get matches for Joomla-related terms, it usually confirms the site’s use of Joomla.
