How do you detect what Shopify theme a website is using?

Shopify is one of the most popular e-commerce solutions. No wonder there are many questions about what Shopify theme a store uses.

But how can you check what theme a Shopify store is using?

There are two methods: 1) Using an online Shopify detector tool or 2) checking for the Shopify theme manually.

Need inspiration for your Shopify store? Check out these real-life Shopify website examples.

1) Using an online Shopify detector tool

The fastest way to detect the Shopify theme is to use an online detector.

  1. Copy the URL for the Shopify store you want to check.
  2. Paste it into our free Shopify theme detector.

In a few seconds, the results will be available.

It’s good to know that the tool detects any other e-commerce tools and technologies you want to check on the website.

2) Checking for the Shopify theme manually

It is possible to manually check for the Shopify theme, but it is a bit more work (but not impossible).

Follow the steps below, and you will know the theme name:

  1. Open the website you want to view the source of.
  2. Right-click on the page.
  3. Select “View Page Source” from the context menu.
  4. Search for var Shopify = Shopify || {}. If you find this, you will know that Shopify powers the website. You can check our guide on how to detect a Shopify store here.
  5. Search for Shopify.theme = {"name":". The name is the actual Shopify theme name.
