In short, a CMS is a content management system that allows us to publish content without editing the source code.

In this article, we will present the most popular CMS last month and this year.

Our data source is our stack detector tool, StackCrawler, which receives about 8,000 websites each month.

List of most used CMS this month

Let’s take a look at last month’s data. We collected data from 2813 websites that use some form of CMS.

  1. WordPress: WordPress dominates with 84.78% of websites using this CMS platform.
  2. Drupal: Drupal is used by 3.02% of websites and is favored for its flexibility and scalability.
  3. Joomla: Joomla powers 1.60% of websites and is known for its content management features.
  4. HubSpot: HubSpot is often chosen by 1.24% of websites for its integration with marketing tools.
  5. Sanity: Sanity is used by 0.78% of websites, offering a headless CMS solution.
  6. Prismic: Prismic accounts for 0.50% of websites, providing another headless CMS option.
  7. Ghost: Ghost is used by 0.04% of websites, focused on publishing and blogging.
  8. Notion: With 0.04%, is known for its note-taking and collaborative capabilities.

There’s no doubt that WordPress truly dominates the CMS market. Around 84% of websites that use CMS use WordPress.

Now it’s time to look at the year so far. We have data from 8678 websites that use a form for CMS on their website.

  1. WordPress: WordPress leads with 85.60% of websites using this content management system.
  2. Drupal: Drupal powers 5.02% of websites and is valued for its flexibility and customization.
  3. Duda: 3.51% uses Duda as their CMS platform.
  4. Joomla: Joomla is used by 1.67% of websites, providing robust content management features.
  5. Sanity: Sanity accounts for 1.54%, offering a headless CMS solution.
  6. HubSpot: HubSpot is often chosen by 1.42% of websites for its marketing and CRM integrations.
  7. Prismic: Prismic powers 0.85% of websites, focusing on headless CMS functionalities.
  8. Ghost: Ghost accounts for 0.40% of websites, particularly favored for publishing and blogging.
  9. Notion: Notion is used by 0.35% of websites and is known for its collaborative and content management features.

When we examine the year so far, the list differs slightly but is mostly the same. WordPress still stays at the top, and Drupal and Joomla come after.

WordPress

With almost 86% of websites using WordPress as a CMS, WordPress is undoubtedly a mastodon.

Of all the websites we scanned, WordPress was used on 24.83%. That includes all websites, even those without a CMS.

WordPress is open-source and can be self-hosted or managed.

Drupal

A good number two, Drupal is used on 4.50% of the websites we scanned.

Drupal is also an open-source CMS, meaning you can start without paying.

Joomla

In third place is Joomla. Joomla is used on 1.84% of the websites where we collected data.

As both WordPress and Drupal, Joomla is open source as well.
