Startups are known for using trendy and modern tech stacks.

Their landing pages are often filled with cool animations and state-of-the-art design elements.

In this list, we have compiled the latest 500 companies from Y Combinator, along with their respective tech stacks.

All websites in this list were checked using the Stackcrawler tool to determine the technology stack they were using.

Y Combinator Companies Tech Stack Statistics

Based on the 500 latest Y Combinator companies, we found that:

  • React is the most popular tool, used by 250 websites (50% of all analyzed pages).
  • Next.js is the second most used framework, appearing in 174 sites (34.8%).
  • Framer is prominent, especially for interactive designs, appearing on 130 websites (26%).
  • 129 companies use Wix.
  • Vercel dominate as hosting solutions, used by 128 (25.6%) sites.

There is no doubt that React and Next.js are popular choices for startups.

While Framer requires no coding experience, Next.js is a JavaScript framework that requires some setup and coding knowledge.

Interestingly, only a few startups use WordPress, the most used CMS globally, and have been for decades. This shows that startups often use more trendy tools and website builders than other sectors.

React is by far the most widely used technology among startups in the Y Combinator list. 250 of the 500 startup websites use React.

  1. React – 250 sites (50%)
  2. Next.js – 174 sites (34.8%)
  3. Framer – 130 sites (26%)
  4. Wix– 129 sites (25.8%)
  5. jQuery – 97 sites (19.4%)

If all the technologies used above are summed, you will notice that the total exceeds 100%, which might seem somewhat unusual. But there’s a reason for it.

React, for example, is the primary library in Next.js; therefore, all Next.js apps will also include React as part of their technology stack.

The same applies to jQuery, which is often used in conjunction with, for example, Webflow.

After further investigation, it was discovered that jQuery is a component of Webflow websites, and therefore naturally appears on these websites, along with other technologies.

  • Netlify – 10 sites (2%)
  • GitHub Pages – 7 sites (1.4%)
  • Squarespace Hosting – 5 sites (1%)
  • Apache – 1 site (0.2%)

Please note that the above statistics may not be comprehensive, as not all hosting services can be detected, resulting in some data on the hosting provider being omitted.

Summary of startup tech stacks

React, Next.js and Framer are popular among the most recent startups from Y Combinator.

Framer and Wix are easy to set up and give the founder (even if they aren’t a programmer) complete control over the visuals.

Next.js, a Javascript frontend framework, is also popular for landing pages. It is built on React.js and requires some coding knowledge to get started.

What might come as a surprise is that just a few websites on this list use WordPress (the most popular CMS solution globally).
