How to find websites by technology version

Updated •Written By Christoffer

Knowing that a website uses PHP or WordPress is useful. But sometimes the version is what matters.

You might be researching adoption of a particular PHP release, looking for WordPress sites to support, or identifying websites built with a specific version of Next.js. Stackcrawler’s website discovery filters now let you narrow results by both technology and its detected version.

How version filtering works

Open Website Discovery and choose Technologies. Search for a tool, such as PHP, WordPress, or Next.js, and select it.

If version information is available, you’ll see version options below that technology. Select one or more versions to filter the results.

For example, you can:

  • Find websites detected as using PHP 8.3
  • Narrow WordPress results to the versions available in the filter
  • Search for websites using a particular Next.js version

The available versions come from technology data recorded for websites in Stackcrawler’s database.

That means options can differ by tool, and not every website using a technology will have a detected version.

Combine versions with other filters

Version filters work alongside the other Website Discovery filters. Combine them with technology, language, TLD, category, or Lighthouse score filters to focus your research.

When selecting multiple versions of one technology, results can match any of those selected versions. When filtering by multiple technologies, a website must match the selected technologies and the version criteria.

Explore technology adoption

Version-level data can help you move beyond “which tools are popular?” and ask more specific questions: which releases appear on live websites, where a technology is being used, and which sites might be relevant to your research or outreach.

Explore websites by technology and version and see what’s in the data.
